The previous Monday (13/12/2010), my parents brought my friend and me around to visit K.L. The reason was simple. It was because we’ve visited so many countries but have never visited the tourist attractions in our own country, Malaysia. We planned to leave around thirty minutes past nine but instead, we left at 10am.. First, we went to the Istana Negara.The official residence of the King of Malaysia.The palace is extremely hugeWe took some photos there as it is one of the most famous tourist attraction. There were guards standing on duty. They did not move an inch even though flies flew around their horses all the time.
Next, we went to the national monument, also known as Tugu Negara in BM, located at the federal capital of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur. The National Monument is a sculpture that commemorates those who died in Malaysia’s struggle for freedom against the Japanese occupation during World War which lasted from 1948 until 1960.The monument represents a group of soldiers holding the Malaysian national flag. Each of them bronze figures symbolizes leadership, suffering, unity, vigilance, strength, courage and sacrifice. There were a total of seven soldiers in the statue.There were two statues, the first and the second. Earlier mentioned was the second monument. As for the first one was not the one in the form of human figures but was a cenotaph that was situated in the middle of a roundabout. The British administration set up the first monument, a 10m flat grass-covered ground to commemorate the wars and honour the fallen heroes from World War I, World War II and the Malayan Emergency. On the monument, it is written “To Our Glorious Dead with dates of the First World War (1914-1918), Second World War (1939-1945) and the Emergency (1948-1960) along with the names of the soldiers who fought for Malaysia. After that, we went to our third destination, the Butterfly Park in Malaysia. The admission fees were cheaper for locals compared to tourist. We took a step in and saw butterflies flying freely everywhere. There were a few routes we could take and come back to the same place so we walked and explored the whole park. In the park were other animals as well, there were turtles, spiders, chameleons and many more. There were also displays of the butterflies in a room. My favourite butterfly was a shiny blue and purple butterfly. Its ‘glowing’ wings were really beautiful.Exiting the butterfly park, we decided to have lunch at a shop near the railway station. We went in the railway station to just take some photo. And we went at the right time. The next thing we knew, the train going to Batu Caves came and so, we took a picture with the train. Then, we had lunch in an Indian restaurant. After lunch, we decided that our next destination would be the planetarium and the deer park. And so, we drove to the planetarium and deer park to find ourselves disappointed. The deer park and planetarium were closed.Feeling a bit disappointed, we went to our final destination—the National Museum of Kuala Lumpur. We were told that there were skeletons of the extinct dinosaurs and lots more of interesting stuff. In the end, we did not see any of it, this might be because it has been moved to a different place. Instead, we enjoyed the historic events that took place in Malaysia before I was born. Looking at all those events, I really hope history will not repeat itself even though many say it would. I would not want World War I and II to happen again.
